'I could have been fourth' -Villeneuve

Jacques Villeneuve thought he could have taken a top five grid position for the San Marino Grand Prix had his qualifying session gone more smoothly

The Canadian, who will start ninth, lost most of Friday practice with mechanical problems, then had two spins this morning and had to abandon some of his qualifying runs due to waved yellow flags on the course.

'My first two runs were pretty bad,' he explained. 'Then finally we changed the set-up on the car and it was really good, but then there was a yellow flag.

'I guess I have the memory of Suzuka and the yellow flag (when Villeneuve nearly lost the title after being disqualified for failing to slow for yellows in practice,) in my mind and I slowed down and lost -0.4-5s.

'They were still my best laps so I am a little disappointed because we lost fourth or fifth place there. But the car was good and should be strong tomorrow.'
