Aleshin to race in German F3
Reigning Formula Renault 3.5 champion Mikhail Aleshin will participate in this year's German Formula 3 series. The Moscow driver will race Russian team Stromos Artline's Arttech F24 Mercedes
Aleshin competed in the Oschersleben final with the team last year, and has agreed to continue in a development driver role. The 23-year-old has recently encountered sponsorship problems that have put a question mark over his expected Carlin GP2 deal.
"At the moment it is not 100 per cent guaranteed that I can compete in the GP2 championship," said Aleshin, "but I am working hard on it. I had some problems with one of my key sponsors during the Asia series. I was pretty surprised after the results we had last year.
"The problem is it is very late. It is one of those situations in life that you cannot make a prognosis for, but we keep working. The F24 drive is free, for development work. I'd like to thank the team for giving me the job. I am sure it will not harm my main career. I will continue working to work towards the GP2 budget, and I am also in Moscow University for the next two months finishing an International Management degree."
Stromos Artline won the 2010 ATS Formula 3 Trophy, for older cars, with German Riccardo Brutschin. Alongside running its own design for Aleshin, the team will step up to this year's ATS Formula 3 Cup with a more recent Dallara F307 for Estonia's Antti Rammo.
