Monras takes commanding F2 win

Miki Monras took a dominant victory in the second Formula 2 race of the season at Silverstone

The Spaniard, who made his series debut 24 hours earlier, made a great getaway from pole position to lead into the first corner, and never looked back as he pulled away to an easy win by over 10 seconds from Mirko Bortolotti.

Bortolotti actually finished third on the road, behind Monras and Will Bratt. But Bratt was not classified in the results as he had earlier been black-flagged for ignoring a drive-through penalty for exceeding the track limits at Stowe.

Bortolotti's runner-up spot means he leaves Silverstone with a three-point lead in the championship over Monras.

Just as in race one, most of the front-end action took place on the opening lap. First the luckless Alex Brundle suffered a clutch problem on the line, causing him to stall from third on the grid. He was then hit by backmarker Parthiva Sureshwaren as the Indian tried to avoid the stationary car.

Further round the first lap, Bratt, Bortolotti and Ramon Pineiro disputed second place into Stowe. Bratt made it by the Italian, but Pineiro clipped the rear end of his rival, spinning himself to the rear of the pack and sending Bortolotti wide momentarily.

Christopher Zanella made a terrific start to leap up from 10th to fourth by the end of the first lap, and he was promoted to third - and his maiden F2 podium - by Bratt's exclusion.

Tobias Hegewald, Mihai Marinescu and Jack Clarke completed the top six while Armaan Ebrahim, Kelvin Snoeks and Mikkel Mac were next up.

Benjamin Lariche snatched 10th place, and the final point, from Tom Gladdis on the final lap, while Pineiro recovered to 12th.
