Rally GB shakes up route for 2011
The organisers of Rally GB have confirmed a radical new route for this year's running - with four days of competition planned for the November event
As expected the final round of this year's World Rally Championship will start from Llandudno on Thursday November 10. The start will, however, be early enough in the day to include two runs at the Great Orme asphalt stage and a single stage in the Clocaenog forest. The crews will then stop overnight in Builth Wells before running through Dyfi, Gartheniog and Dyfnant forests on Friday's second day.
Friday night is the first time the cars will be seen in Cardiff, where they will be serviced ahead of a return to mid-Wales on Saturday. Hafren, Sweet Lamb and Myherin lie in wait on day two (a repeat of last year's opening leg) before six stages on Sunday's final day.
The closing day comprises two loops of Halfway, Crychan and Monument - with the Monument test running as the power stage.
Andrew Coe, chief executive of Wales Rally GB's organiser, International Motor Sports Limited, is delighted with the new route for 2011.
"It has always been a firm commitment of Wales Rally GB to innovate and bring new thinking to the British arm of the World Rally Championship," he said. "And, we are doing that this year by visiting a far larger part of the country, as well as some of the most iconic stages in rallying history.
"For 2011, we have tried extremely hard to break the mould and give the event a fresh, reinvigorated approach. There is an extremely strong relationship between us and the Welsh Assembly Government and, as a team, they were supportive of our desire to take the event to the north of the country."
