Juncadella wins final Ricard race
Daniel Juncadella passed his Prema team-mate Roberto Merhi with three laps to go to claim victory in the third and final Formula 3 Euro Series race at Paul Ricard in France
The Prema drivers had been the class of the field during the Sunday morning race as polesitter Merhi and his Spanish compatriot Juncadella pulled away of the pack, which was led by Signature's Marco Wittmann.
For 15 laps the two circulated together with Juncadella seemingly happy to follow in Merhi's wheeltracks. But with three laps to go he moved ahead of his team-mate and went on to claim a victory that also gave him an early six-point lead in the championship.
Wittmann took an easy third place in what was the only Volkswagen-powered car in a top four dominated by Mercedes-engined machines. Behind him, Mucke's Nigel Melker beat Laurens Vanthoor (Signature) for fourth place. Felix Rosenqvist (Mucke) had also been involved in the battle, but he dropped out of the race at one-third distance.
Jimmy Eriksson had a strong end to the race, the Swede passing his Motopark team-mate Kimiya Sato and Signature's Daniel Abt on the penultimate lap to secure sixth. Carlos Munoz (Signature) also got by both to take seventh by the flag.
