Tomczyk targets wins in older Audi

DTM veteran Martin Tomczyk is targeting race wins in his first year driving an older-spec car for Audi

The 29-year-old has been demoted from the Abt Sportsline team for his 11th season in the German series.

It will be his first campaign in an older car, but he believes there will still be plenty of chances to shine with Team Phoenix.

"I want to be the fastest year-old car driver at the end of the year," said Tomczyk. "The targets have changed, but I assume that a year-old car is also capable of victory this year.

"I want to and must achieve something with the team. It is possible to shine in an old car and with the new tyres from Hankook new possibilities will arise for the year-old cars."

Tomczyk added that it was crucial for him to have a good season before the DTM welcomes BMW and possibly more manufacturers to the series. The influx of new entrants is expected to reduce the number of cars fielded by each marque for next year.

"2011 is of great importance," he said. "Everybody is already looking toward 2012 when the DTM faces a completely new start. This means that everybody has to sort themselves out for 2012.

"I believe I could be the benchmark among the year-old cars. I'll slip into my role of number one within a DTM team for the first time, and I won't shy away from any comparisons. This is a job that is new to me and which I am only too happy to tackle."
