Ford calm about electrical gremlins

Ford team director Malcolm Wilson is confident his M-Sport team can solve the electrical problems which have hit the Fiesta RS WRC on Rally Mexico

Matthew Wilson retired from fourth place last night, while Ken Block retired twice in 24 hours, both with electrical-related issues in their cars. This morning, Wilson's car has stopped on the first road section with what is also believed to be an electrical issue.

Both cars suffered small electrical fires last night and the M-Sport mechanics worked until four o'clock this morning to make sure the cars were ready to restart this morning.

"I'm not worried," said Malcolm Wilson. "We've lost two looms, we've still got one brand new one and Matthew's from last night is being repaired. We've learned a lot from yesterday and we've altered the fan strategy - hopefully the other cars will get the benefit."

Wilson added that one of the benefits of running nine cars meant the team was collecting more data on the new car's behaviour on its hot gravel rally debut.

"I genuinely feel we're reaping the rewards from having more cars out there," Wilson added. "What happened shouldn't have happened, but we are learning from it."

Mikko Hirvonen's lead Fiesta remains in third place after the opening stage this morning.
