Daly moves to GP3 with Carlin
Star Mazda champion Conor Daly will join the GP3 Series with Carlin this season
The 19-year-old American, son of ex-Formula 1 and IndyCar racer Derek Daly, is to dovetail his GP3 programme with a partial season in Indy Lights, contesting all non-clashing races with champion team Sam Schmidt Motorsports.
Daly's GP3 move will mark the first time he has raced in Europe bar a brief Formula Ford 1600 programme at the end of 2008, during which he won the Walter Hayes Trophy. He already has some GP3 experience from testing for Carlin during the winter.
"I'm delighted to be with Carlin in GP3," said Daly. "The team have an amazing reputation in Europe and I know I will be in good hands with them this year.
"GP3 will be a big challenge; almost all the circuits will be a new experience for me, but I think that with the advice and help of the team I will have all the ingredients I need to challenge for good results from the outset."
Team boss Trevor Carlin added: "He has displayed great talent in America and we were extremely impressed with him during GP3 testing last year. This season will be a tough learning curve for him, but he has the ability and attitude to be able to turn whatever challenges he faces this season into success."
