P1 signs Move, Grubmuller for 2011

P1 Motorsport has announced that Daniil Move and Walter Grubmuller Jr will form its 2011 Formula Renault 3.5 driver line-up

Austrian Grubmuller had been widely anticipated to remain with the team for a second year in the category.

Move is set to enter his fifth season of Formula Renault 3.5. The Russian finished tenth in the championship with Norfolk-based P1 in 2009, his most competitive effort to date.

Former champions P1 endured a podium drought in 2010. P1's technical director Roly Vincini is optimistic that the signings will restore the team to the front of the grid.

"Walter made his debut in the series with us last year, and it's great to have the opportunity to build on the progress we made throughout the 2010 season," said Vincini.

"The experience Walter has gained over the past twelve months should see him be competitive as this year evolves.

"Daniil had a difficult season last year, after leaving P1 Motorsport to join Junior Lotus Racing. When he raced with us in 2009, Daniil achieved some strong qualifying results and podium positions. I've every confidence that we can surpass this in 2011."

Former British Formula 3 runner-up Grubmuller displayed top-six pace on occasion last year, on his way to 16th in the drivers' standings.

"The aim is to dramatically improve on last year's results and fight for the top positions," said Grubmuller. "It is great to be returning to the grid with P1 as they are familiar - I've worked with Roly and the team for a year now, and that's definitely an advantage."

Move, who was represented by established driver manager Enrico Zanarini last year, added: "I'm very happy to be working with P1 Motorsport again. I cannot wait to jump into the car and begin testing for the season ahead - I know with the right preparation we can be competitive and I'm hoping for a strong year."

The 2011 Formula Renault 3.5 season gets underway at Motorland Aragon in Spain on 16 and 17 April.
