BBC set to reveal new F1 line-up

The off-season has been filled with rumours that the BBC was going to shake-up its coverage plans - with Martin Brundle and David Coulthard set to become the main commentators with Legard moving aside.

The BBC has so far kept quiet about its intentions for 2011, but Legard announced on his Twitter feed on Tuesday morning that he was leaving the BBC role.

"Life moves on," wrote Legard. "Ask Nick Heidfeld or @narainracing (Narain Karthikeyan). You never know what's next. To the critical and the complimentary, thanks for the company."

Legard earned great respect in the F1 paddock but his tie-up in the commentary box with Brundle divided opinion among fans - and it was that factor that may have prompted the change from the BBC.

Speaking about his future plans, Legard said: "Investigating various options, home and abroad, in F1 and outside. Interesting times..."

Coulthard's expected move to the commentary box to provide expert analysis comes after two seasons in a BBC role - where he provided pre-race build-up and post-race insight alongside Eddie Jordan and presenter Jake Humphrey.
