Maldonado to demo Williams in Caracas

Pastor Maldonado will get a chance to show off Formula 1 machinery in front of his home fans next week with his Williams team announcing plans for a demonstration run in Venezuela

Maldonado will get to drive last year's Williams-Cosworth at the event, which is taking place on January 14 in Caracas, around the famous Los Proceres monument.

Thousands of fans are expected to attend the event, with President Chavez also set to turn up.

Maldonado, who will be starting his first F1 season in 2011, said: "I'm so happy the team are coming to Venezuela.

"To be given the opportunity of driving a Formula 1 car in front of my fellow countrymen is going to be something very special.

"We will definitely put on a good show for everyone who attends. Now that I am a confirmed race driver for Williams, this feels like giving something back to the people who have supported my career and put their faith in me over the years."

Team boss Frank Williams added: "Away from the race track, we have demonstrated our cars in many prestigious locations around the world. It is always a pleasure to do so and a privilege to share with the public the sheer power of a Formula 1 car.

"We are therefore delighted that Pastor has invited us to Venezuela, and for him to be driving our car in his home country."
