Ganassi to field stars at Daytona

Chip Ganassi Racing will field its leading IndyCar and NASCAR drivers in this year's Daytona 24 Hours

The team has won the event three times in the past but missed out on victory in the last two years.

This year, NASCAR racers Juan Pablo Montoya and Jamie McMurray, and IndyCar champions Scott Dixon and Dario Franchitti will team up in Ganassi's #2 entry.

Last season's Grand-Am champions, Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas, will begin their title defence in the #1 car, joined by Graham Rahal and Joey Hand.

"Daytona is always exciting for our team, especially because it involves so many of our drivers from all different series," said team boss Chip Ganassi.

"There are so many elements out of the drivers' hands that need to come together in order to have a shot at winning this event. That's what I love about it. You have to not only be good, but you also have to have a little bit of luck on your side to succeed in a race that lasts 24 hours."

In last year's 24 hours, the #2 Ganassi car led in the early stages before an engine failure forced its retirement, while the #1 car was leading inside the last three hours until Justin Wilson pitted with suspected damage - eventually finishing second.
