Stoner keen to choose Honda direction

Casey Stoner is keen to make sure his new Honda team has a clear sense of where he wants to head with the 2011 bike's development by the end of today's Valencia test

Although he admitted that the main focus of his first outing with his new employer was to get comfortable on the Honda, with no more testing available until the new year, Stoner has a lot that he wants to achieve during today's second day of running.

"We've got a few more things to work on and try. We're working on understanding the electronics system, how these things work and what sort of direction we want to go in," he told the official MotoGP website.

"There's no point us giving a lot of data at the moment, but at the same time we need to get cracking because there's not a lot of test time before the start of next year so we need to get as much information as we can before we head away for this winter break.

"It will pretty much just be time on the bike, giving as much feedback as we can on how the bike feels, and what direction we want to go in."

Stoner rode an LCR Honda for his MotoGP rookie season in 2006 before starting his hugely successful four-year stint at Ducati. The Australian said that returning to the Honda hold had been a good experience so far.

"I was a little bit disappointed with the weather and that we couldn't get a full session in, but it managed to dry up and give us a few hours of some really good track time," he said.

"It's been a great experience to get back onto a Honda and the way it feels and everything has been fantastic.

"We've been working on a few different things, but mainly just on the ergonomics of the bike, trying to get a better feel, and my seating position and the brake levers, all this sort of thing, sorted. The day has been great, to be honest."
