Kane vows to come back stronger
Steven Kane has vowed to come back even stronger in 2011 after missing out on the British Touring Car Championship independents' title at Brands Hatch last weekend
The Motorbase BMW driver began the final race of the season six points behind Tom Onslow-Cole and four adrift of Tom Chilton.
But despite finishing second to Andrew Jordan in the decisive race, he missed out to Chilton, who finished third in his Arena Ford, by just two points.
"It's a shame, but I pushed as hard as I could," Kane told AUTOSPORT. "I was right on his bootlid when the safety car came out, and that gave front-wheel drive cars a bit of a breather on their tyres.
"After that there wasn't really the time to get anything done without taking him off - which I wasn't going to do.
"What I'd like now is to come back next year, when Motorbase should be even stronger, and get the job done."
The former McLaren/AUTOSPORT/BRDC Award winner took his maiden BTCC win at Thruxton in April and eight podium finishes in total during the season.
He was satisfied to end the season sixth in the overall championship and second in the independents' standings.
"I'm the best BMW driver in the points, so I'm happy with that," he added. "It's especially satisfying to beat a guy as fast and as experienced as [team-mate] Mat Jackson, and Rob Collard, who was in the championship-winning [WSR] car from last year."
