Webber not looking at points gap

The Australian is leading by five points from McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, with Fernando Alonso in third, 19 points behind.

The Red Bull driver admits it is nice to be leading the championship, but says he is not thinking about that, but rather about winning Sunday's race.

"I am leading. There are a few guys who have a few less points here and there, but it is till very interesting," said Webber. "It can move around - in a negative or positive way for some people quite quickly. It is certainly a nice position to be in.

"I would certainly like a few more points. It doesn't matter if is if two guys, four guys, eight guys. You come here with the job of trying to win the race and that is what we try to do.

"But will five of us go to Abu Dhabi? The chances are it could - it might be three, might he five, might be one. We have to finish races, stay in there. We have to be in the hunt in Abu Dhabi.

"Leading the championship in Singapore is not the important thing, leading it in Abu Dhabi is."

Despite his intention to try to win the race, Webber concedes it is vital to continue scoring points in every grand prix.

And he said he is not planning to change his approach now.

"I am treating this like a normal race. It is similar to what it was at the start of the year, we have to try and get the best out of the car, we do our best for the race, and usually you get what you deserve in this game," he said.

"Non finishes are not part of the menu. I need to keep scoring, getting as many points as we can. Winning makes a difference, that is what our goal is to try and do here."

The championship leader reckons the Singapore circuit should offer a good opportunity for Red Bull to return to winning ways following a difficult race at Monza two weeks ago.

"We're not leading by mistake, we have earned it. We are looking to add to it pretty solidly this weekend, it should be okay for our car, it is bumpy which should be good for us in the past. We are optimistic that we can continue to chip away It is important to do that in the next few weeks."
