Rigon confident he can win title again

Inaugural Superleague Formula champion Davide Rigon believes he can repeat his 2008 success with Beijing Guoan with his new club Anderlecht this year

Rigon, who was only a part-time racer in the series last year, took the points lead for the first time in last weekend's Algarve races. He is 14 points clear of Tottenham Hotspur's Craig Dolby.

"Now is a good moment to lead the championship with three races to go," said Rigon. "There is still a lot of points to be won, and my rivals are very quick, but it is important to lead. It would not surprise me if the title was decided in race two at Navarra [the finale] though."

Dolby, who came into last weekend's Algarve round in the lead, suffered a spin and a broken front wing in the two races, but salvaged a decent points score.

"Twenty points is nothing in this championship, there's still a long way to go," said Dolby. "Race two was going fine until someone decided to brake 30-metres too early in front of me. It didn't even damage the wing, just broke the brackets off."

The big loser at Algarve was AC Milan's Yelmer Buurman, who tumbled from second to fourth due to a drive-through penalty in race one and a gearbox failure in the second. He is 43 points off Rigon's lead.

"Anything can happen in the final races," he said. "I feel like I should be leading after this weekend, but that drive-through and the transmission failure, I'm playing catch-up now."
