Monteiro wins second Valencia race

Tiago Monteiro capitalised on a poor start by pole-sitter Alain Menu to win Sunday's second World Touring Car race at Valencia

The former grand prix driver started third and moved to the outside of front row starters Menu and Fredy Barth, while the fast-starting Andy Priaulx tried the inside. Monteiro settled into a comfortable lead from Barth, just as Menu and Priaulx collided behind.

Priaulx had dived inside Menu at Turn 3, only for Menu to bring his Cruze into the corner as normal, triggering contact and Menu spinning off. Priaulx was also delayed, which let Yvan Muller through to third.

Muller once again made the most of his opportunity to score and took second from Fredy Barth when the SEAT driver slithered wide with a right rear puncture.

Championship leader Muller's title rivals, Gabriele Tarquini and Andy Priaulx, had a scrap for fourth in the closing stages as Priaulx responded after being passed by Tarquini and Jordi Gene early in the race.

Rob Huff was a quiet sixth, with Michel Nykjaer, Augusto Farfus, Tom Coronel and Kristian Poulsen rounding out the top 10. Poulsen also claimed the honours in the independents' class.
