Andersson targets return to works seat

Super 2000 World Rally Championship driver P-G Andersson says he is not interested in whether he wins this year's title - his sole aim is to try and return to a factory seat in the series next season

Andersson is lying second in the S-WRC table in his first year in a private Skoda Fabia S2000 - 18 points adrift of series leader Xevi Pons. The two are both contesting the latest round of the S-WRC, this week's Rally Germany.

Former Suzuki driver Andersson returned to World Rally Car competition on the year's previous asphalt round in Bulgaria, when he made a one-off appearance for the Stobart Ford team. The Swede says a return to the top flight is what he wants.

"If Ford offered me the chance to drive the Focus again, I would take it over the Super 2000 series any day of the week," said Andersson. "Like I said at the start of the year, I want to get back to where I was - that's the main priority for me.

"The last [S-WRC] round in Finland was tough and I have to say, since that event I haven't looked at the championship [positions] at all; I'm taking it rally by rally all the time now."

Andersson has been linked with a drive at Mini and Ford next season.
