Moto2: Tomizawa takes dominant pole

Shoya Tomizawa will start the Czech Moto2 Grand Prix from pole position after dominating qualifying at Brno on Saturday

It was the 19-year-old Japanese rider's second pole of the season, the last of which came at Jerez back in May.

The Technomag Suter rider was never truly threatened for the stop spot, despite a late flurry of activity which saw double race-winner Andrea Iannone shoot up to the second position on the Speed Up.

Iannone's lap was enough to contain championship leader Toni Elias's best effort, which put the Gresini rider third on the grid. The Spaniard might even have gone second fastest but for a mistake on his final attempt.

Roberto Rolfo was fourth fastest ahead of Yuki Takahasi and Dominque Aegerter, whose sixth quickest time was his best qualifying effort of the season.

Simone Corsi denied Arne Tode seventh position right at the end of the session. Julian Simon was ninth while British rider Scott Redding completed the top ten.

Local rider Karel Abraham, who is imminently expected to be announced as a Ducati privateer in the MotoGP class, had an eventful session as crashed his way to 34th - twice in fact.

The Cardion rider clipped the back of another rider 20 minutes in to the session and looked fairly shaken when he was put in the back of a medical car. Undeterred he returned to the track, only to crash again on the entry to the stadium, fundamentally ending his FTR motorcycle's day and his own.

Others to crash during the session included Axel Pons, Yonni Hernandez and Raffaele de Rosa.
