Spengler wins and stretches lead

The Canadian led home Paul di Resta and Gary Paffett for a Mercedes 1-2-3, as Audi had a day to forget.

Spengler took the lead from polesitter Mattias Ekstrom at the start, and the Swede slipped all the way to seventh as he was forced wide at the first corner.

At the front, Spengler and di Resta would never come under any pressure. The pair were close for most of the race, but di Resta dropped back after the final pitstops.

Timo Scheider was left to fly the Audi flag after a good start vaulted him up from eighth on the grid to fourth on the opening lap.

The reigning champion fought with Jamie Green for third place early on, but he ended up losing a place to Paffett after a failed attempt to pass Green on the outside of the first corner.

Paffett and Scheider then jumped Green after the Persson Motorsport driver had a slow pitstop, dropping him to fifth.

Green came under pressure from Ralf Schumacher in the closing stages, but he was just able to hold on for a top five finish.

Behind their battle, Ekstrom came home a lonely seventh, as he was unable to recover any of the ground he lost at the start.

He finished only 2.5 seconds ahead of Maro Engel, who came out on top of a fierce scrap with Mike Rockenfeller to take the final point.
