Winner Grosjean takes Auto GP lead

Romain Grosjean surged into the Auto GP championship lead in only his third race in the series by taking his second win in this afternoon's Magny-Cours round

The former Renault grand prix driver, whose primary campaign this year is in the GT1 World Championship with Matech Ford, made a poor start from pole and fell to fourth.

But quick laps on a clear track after an early pitstop by DAMS got him back up to second, and he then chased down fast-starting race leader Adrien Tambay.

The Charouz-Gravity driver managed to resist Grosjean until his car failed with a fuel pump problem just two laps from the flag, allowing Grosjean through to win again.

DAMS secured a one-two with Duncan Tappy earning his first Auto GP podium, ahead of Lazarus' Fabio Onidi, debutant Jake Rosenzweig (Super Nova) and Jan Charouz (Charouz-Gravity). Fellow newcomer Esteban Guerrieri fell back from his front row start to finish sixth.

Erstwhile points leader Edoardo Piscopo came through from the back row to take seventh - although his last lap pass on Carlos Iaconelli ironically gave the Durango driver another reverse-grid pole for race two.

Giorgio Pantano's poor weekend continued as a wheelnut problem caused a severe delay in his pitstop.
