Van der Drift wins Super Final again
Jarama winner Chris van der Drift doubled his money in the Super Final at the Nurburgring in Germany on Sunday, bagging his second cheque for €100,000 in seven days for Olympiacos
After a quiet run in race two, van der Drift made a sensational start to the five-lap dash-for-cash, taking full advantage of the front row of Yelmer Buurman (AC Milan) and Tristan Gommendy (Galatasary) making poor starts.
Gommendy had barely stopped on the grid when the race was started, while Buurman got too much wheelspin, all of which allowed van der Drift to sprint between them in the run to the first corner.
He was attacked there by fourth-placed starter Davide Rigon (Anderlecht), but van der Drift defended the inside line and quickly pulled away. He dominated the event, winning by 5.8 seconds.
Buurman held off Gommendy for third after a good scrap over the final couple of laps. Max Wissel (FC Basel) finished fifth, but Franck Perera (Flamengo) failed to get off the grid.
Buurman is now 30 points behind series leader Craig Dolby of Tottenham Hotspur, who had a weekend to forget in Germany.
