Thompson to test NGTC prototype
James Thompson has been named as the test and development driver for the prototype car built to the British Touring Car Championship's new NGTC regulations
Thompson, who has two BTCC titles and 36 race wins to his name, will begin testing the prototype car, which is being built by GPR Motorsport, in September.
The machine will also take part in the free practice sessions at the final round of the season at Brands Hatch on October 9.
BTCC series director Alan Gow said: "The first full NGTC car is now under way, in its very early build stages.
"I couldn't think of a more ideal driver than James, with his vast experience and proven track record in the BTCC as well as other international race series, to provide the precise technical feedback needed to develop its full potential - and I thank him for enthusiastically accepting my offer."
Full NGTC regulations will come into force next year, although teams will still be allowed to use Super 2000 cars in the series as well.
