McLaren unconcerned by Fry departure

McLaren is not concerned that Pat Fry's 18-year experience at the Woking-based team will give Ferrari an advantage in the 2010 title fight, according to Paddy Lowe

The McLaren engineering director feels that Fry's departure will open the door for engineers coming through the ranks and is happy Fry has found a new challenge at the Scuderia.

"Pat won't mind me saying this, when we have change it's an opportunity for development flow within the team, which you need to sustain your long-term development," said Lowe. "It's thrown up some great opportunities for the next generation.

"Ferrari is a long-time rival of ours. I think he'll do a great job there. It doesn't fill me with great fear, it's not 'oh dear, Pat's taken all of our knowledge over there'. The team's got great strength across all the different disciplines," he added.

Ferrari confirmed on Tuesday that Fry will join the Italian team on July 1 as assistant technical director, reporting directly to technical director Aldo Costa.
