Korean track construction on schedule
Construction of the Korea International Circuit is on schedule for completion this summer, organisers said on Tuesday
The circuit, which is scheduled to host the first ever Korean Grand Prix on October 24, will enter the final phase of the development, the surfacing of the track, in July.
Currently, 80 per cent of the total construction is complete, according to the organisers of the event, KAVO (Korea Auto Valley Operation).
"We are extremely pleased with the progress of the circuit, facilities, and preparations for the Formula 1 Korean Grand Prix," KAVO Chief Executive Officer Yung Cho Chung.
"Construction is on schedule for completion this summer, and we have encountered no obstacles whatsoever, either logistical or political.
"The Government, at both the central and provincial level, is fully supportive of the project, and the entire country looks forward to welcoming Formula 1 to South Korea this autumn."
The circuit has been designed by Hermann Tilke as a dual structure: the 5.615-km Formula 1 track and a shorter layout of 3.045 km.
