H14: Audi keep pressure on Peugeot

Audi continued its tactic of pressuring Peugeot to breaking point in the 14th hour as dawn approached at Le Mans

For the first half of the hour, second-placed Mike Rockenfeller repeatedly probed the leading Peugeot's comfort zone, forcing Nicolas Minassian to pick up the pace in the #2 908.

When Rockenfeller made a routine pitstop, Andre Lotterer took up the attack in the #8 car. The remaining Peugeots lie fourth and sixth after encountering mechanical problems earlier in the race.

Alex Wurz is two laps behind Lotterer and Rockenfeller in the #1 908; Olivier Panis is two laps further adrift after an extended stop in the 12th hour to replace a broken driveshaft.

Tom Kristensen completed an epic 74-lap stint in the #7 Audi, handing over to Rinaldo Capello in fifth place.

The chief protagonists in LMP2 are much closer after Highcroft's Marco Werner slashed the Strakka HPD ARX.01's lead while Nick Leventis was at the wheel. Jonny Kane took over from Leventis and matched Werner stroke for stroke, steadying the gap between them.

In GT1 the #60 Matech Ford GT that had led the class earlier in the race retired with engine failure while running third. The Larbre Saleen driven by Gardel/Berville/Canal continues to lead by three laps from the #73 Corvette, which is eight laps ahead of third in class.

The Corvettes of Oliver Gavin and Jan Magnussen remain at the head of the GT2 field and now enjoy an even more comfortable lead after third-placed Patrick Long brought the #76 Porsche in requiring a brake pad change.

BMW's woes continued. Its sole remaining M3 lies eighth in class but is in the garage while a steering problem is repaired.
