H6: Peugeot stays in control

#1 Peugeot, Le Mans 2010Peugeot continues to dominate at one-quarter distance of the 78th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Alexander Wurz in the #1 908 HDi had extended his lead over team-mate Nicolas Minassian in the #3 car, and a safety car late in the hour - for the stranded #92 GT2 Aston Martin - has separated the pair further.

The two works Peugeots are now a lap ahead of the leading Audi, the #9 car in fourth, while the ORECA Peugeot remains on the lead lap in third.

Aston Martin continues to head the petrol runners. The #007 car is sixth overall and the sister works #009 and Signature #008 machines are its closest rivals as the troubles of the rival Rebellion Lola squad continue.

In LMP2, Highcroft's Marco Werner spent much of the hour lapping at least 10 seconds faster than Nick Leventis in the similar Strakka HPD, which had previously held an advantage of a lap. But an unscheduled stop late in the hour for a slow puncture on the right rear has dropped Werner back again.

Pierre Kaffer, in the #82 Risi Ferrari, and the #64 Chevrolet Corvette of Emmanuel Collard were providing the best racing of the event as they squabbled over the GT2 lead. Kaffer was just ahead when the safety car came out and the Chevrolet V8 had to come in for fuel

The #60 Matech Ford GT of Romain Grosjean/Thomas Mutsch/Jonathan Hirschi continues to lead GT1, but the team lost its #61 car when the engine blew and caught fire while Natacha Gachnang was at the wheel.
