Peugeots hold lead at start

Peugeot has got off to the perfect start in the Le Mans 24 Hours with all four 908s safely away at the head of the field

The pole-sitting #3 car, started by Pedro Lamy, led from the rolling start, with the #1 and #2 cars falling in behind. Frank Montagny then passed Marc Gene on the third lap to move the #2 car into second place.

Nicolas Lapierre got the ORECA Peugeot away in fourth place and survived a first-lap hounding from Allan McNish in the #7 Audi R15 to settle down behind the three works 908s.

The three factory Audis are lined up with Timo Bernhard and Marcel Fassler behind McNish. Stefan Mucke and Darren Turner are next up in the two Aston Martin Racing cars, with Franck Mailleux behind in the Signature version.

The #19 Autocon Lola-AER has already hit trouble, stopping halfway round the first lap with a gearbox problem.

Jonny Kane is leading the LMP2 class narrowly, less than a second ahead of David Brabham in the Highcroft Racing HPD.

The Young Driver Aston Martin and the Marc VDS Ford are running together at the head of GT1.

The works Corvettes of Oliver Gavin and Jan Magnussen are out front in GT2. Marc Lieb and Patrick Long are third and fourth in class in the #77 Felbermayr and Imsa Porsches, with AF Corse's Jean Alesi the first Ferrari in fifth.
