Barrichello hopeful of stronger weekend

Williams driver Rubens Barrichello is hopeful that the team's upgrades for the Canadian Grand Prix, which include a new evolution of its front wing design, will make the FW32 more competitive this weekend

The team has scored only eight points in the first seven races of the season, and the veteran Brazilian is keen for the car to take a step forward this weekend ahead of a major upgrade for the European Grand Prix at Valencia later this month.

"I hope it is a step forward, but you don't really know until you try it in practice," said Barrichello. "We have some new things here but we just need to see how it translates to the track.

"The reason we didn't so well in Istanbul was that people went forward and we didn't. We brought new stuff and didn't progress so we need to wait and see this weekend."

Team-mate Nico Hulkenberg is confident that the Valencia upgrade will allow Williams to push for points finishes again despite anticipating a tough run of races to come.

"There is a big upgrade coming for Valencia which should put us closer to the top 10, and ideally in the top 10," Hulkenberg told AUTOSPORT. "It depends how the others improve, but we should make a step forward.

"Each one of the upcoming races will be tough. It's going to be a difficult year because when you are at the stage that your car is too slow, you develop but so do the others.

"But this is only my eighth race and I'm still at the beginning of my F1 career. I know that in the hard times you can learn a lot."
