Corvette pleased by ILMC expansion

The ACO announced earlier today it would increase the number of Intercontinental rounds from three in 2010 to seven next year. The 2011 season will take in the American Le Mans Series' Sebring 12 Hours and Petit Le Mans, Le Mans Series races at Spa and Silverstone, the Le Mans 24 Hours (which scores double points), and Asian events at Fuji and Zhuhai.

Corvette programme manager Doug Fehan said: "It's an interesting and powerful base on which to build a series. Chevrolet and Corvette are global brands and we will examine it closely to make a decision. It has to make commercial sense."

Fehan also confirmed that the strength of GT2, and the dropping of GT1 at Le Mans, could help encourage Chevrolet and other marques to commit to a programme.

"We moved from GT1 to GT2 because it became apparent that to compete against the best manufacturers in the world we had to be in GT2," he said. "I think we and other manufacturers are united on the fact that a single GT class makes the most sense for everyone."
