Bruni hails Ferrari qualifying

Gianmaria Bruni has declared himself pleased with the #82 Risi Competizionen Ferrari's performance after setting the quickest qualifying time in the GT2 class

Bruni's time of 3m59.233s, set at the beginning of the two-hour period, stood until the end - even though a transmission problem sidelined the car for the balance of the session.

"It was difficult to find a clear lap but this one [the fastest] was on my fifth lap so the tyres were not so good," he said. "I had two good laps before that, and was quick in Sectors 1 and 2, but got traffic at the end of each lap.

"I slowed down once and went again. It's good, I'm pleased because we worked?hard to find a good set-up on the car in the practice session this afternoon and now the car is very good."

Almost immediately after setting the time, his car - shared with Jaime Melo and Pierre Kaffer - developed a technical problem.

"I changed gear on the straight and I think something on the differential was out so the car was pushing on one side."

The fault was traced to a failed gearbox output shaft, one of several components which the team says was coming to the end of its service life and due for replacement before the race.
