Kubica: Too early to think about 2011

Robert Kubica insists it is still too early for him to consider his options for 2011, as Renault's upturn in performance coincides with continued rumours that Ferrari is eyeing him as a potential replacement for Felipe Massa

The Pole joined Renault from BMW Sauber this season, but is a free agent at the end of the year - although he has repeatedly emphasised how comfortable he already feels at Renault.

"It's not the time to talk about it," said Kubica in Turkey when asked about his 2011 plans. "There will be a time to talk about staying with Renault or not.

"For me, now is still too early. We'll have to see. Once I get the feeling of what I have to decide, I will do it."

Kubica pointed out that Renault had been regarded as a risky destination when he signed his contract, as it was still in the immediate aftermath of the Singapore 2008 scandal revelations and was amid a performance slump. But it has rallied in 2010 and Kubica already has two podium finishes under his belt this year.

"Many people, when I signed for Renault, told me that I was completely wrong and it was quite a bad move," said Kubica.

"Many people said I should even have stayed at Sauber, and when I decided to move to Renault, its future was uncertain.

"I think I'm pretty happy with my decision and I hope I can rely on my decisions in the future. I'm happy with what I did and where I moved."

He admitted that there had been some initial issues to resolve as he got accustomed to working with Renault after four seasons with BMW.

"Everybody thinks I'm clearly leading the team and maybe from some point of view people can get this impression because when I joined the team and saw things I felt could be improved, I felt like I should say them," said Kubica.

"I was happy about the response from the team. Although on some issues the team maybe took a bit too long and didn't agree in the beginning, I think now those things are gone. It was very important, especially in February, to move quickly in the right direction in order to be ready for the start of the season, and I think we managed that very well.

"I'm not saying we didn't move quick enough, but because of some issues which I preferred - and maybe in the past they were not used to doing - it took a bit longer to convince people. That's normal, if I'm used to one thing, it's also quite difficult for me to come back [to something else]."
