Scheckter gets DRR seat for Indy

Tomas Scheckter is to rejoin Dreyer & Reinbold Racing for this year's Indianapolis 500

The South African drove for the team in the second half of the 2009 season, after a one-off for Dale Coyne Racing at Indy, but has not raced so far in 2010. He joins Justin Wilson and Mike Conway in the Dreyer & Reinbold line-up.

"He did a great job for us last year and we are extremely happy that we were able to work something out with him for this event," said team co-owner Dennis Reinbold.

Scheckter took Dreyer & Reinbold to three top ten finishes in oval races last year, and hopes the team's much-improved road course pace so far in 2010 will translate to Indianapolis as well.

"I'm really happy to be back with Dreyer & Reinbold Racing and to be working with Larry Curry again. I feel at home," he said.

"We had a great Indy test at the end of last year and I feel that the momentum that the team has built on the road/street courses with Mike and Justin we can carry that on to the ovals.

"Also, having Justin as my team-mate last year at Indy, we worked very well together. Dennis and [co-owner] Robbie [Buhl] have been very supportive of getting this done and feel like we have a chance to do great things this year at the speedway."

Scheckter's best Indy 500 result to date is fourth place with Ganassi in 2003, although he dominated until crashing in his rookie season with Cheever a year earlier.

Dreyer & Reinbold has entered four cars for Indy, with Ana Beatriz strongly linked to its final car. The Indy Lights graduate previously made a one-off appearance with DRR in the season opener in Sao Paulo and was hoping to raise the funding for further outings.
