Nash aims for Rockingham podium

James Nash is aiming for a podium finish on his return to the British Touring Car Championship at Rockingham this weekend

Nash, who has replaced championship leader Fabrizio Giovanardi at Triple 8 Vauxhall, finished 15th overall last year in a partial campaign in an RML Chevrolet, and believes he can continue the progress he made in a Vectra.

"My aim for the first round is to get a podium straight away. I always want points finishes and want to finish in the top six of the championship this year. I think it's attainable," Nash told AUTOSPORT.

"Of course I'd like to win a race, because after podiums you just want to keep on improving. Last year I managed to win one - on the road at least [before he was penalised for causing an avoidable accident], and I've not got any slower, so I think we should be competitive."

Nash will partner Phil Glew at Triple 8 and believes that having another young charger alongside him will intensify the competition within the tam.

"It's a shame I haven't got a more experience team-mate like I did last year with Jason Plato and Mat Jackson, but Triple 8, as a team, have all the data you could need for the Vectra, so I don't think it will put me at a disadvantage.

"I think with me and Phil though, two young guys each wanting to build a reputation, the level of competition between the two of us should be pretty high, and maybe that can help move us both forward."
