Citroen, Ford agree to avoid tactics

The Ford and Citroen teams have made a private agreement not to repeat some of the tactics which were deployed on the last round of the World Rally Championship in Jordan

Citroen's team principal Olivier Quesnel told AUTOSPORT that there would be no repeat of any of the factory drivers checking in early to secure a more favourable position on the road. The agreement was reached before the Rally of Turkey stewards released a bulletin warning competitors not to bring the sport into disrepute by using a tactical approach.

"I have no opinion of the stewards bulletin," said Quesnel. "It seems it's very complicated to change the rule, but with Malcolm [Wilson, Ford team director] we decide not to check in advance. We made a gentleman's agreement with Malcolm that we will never check in advance as we did in Jordan."

Asked if he thought the stewards' bulletin would bring an end to tactics, Quesnel replied: "Maybe, I don't know. For myself, everything can happen. I don't like the tactic, but we don't know what will happen."
