Wilson praises stage delay decision

Matthew Wilson has backed the Rally Sweden organisers' decision to go ahead with the Sagen stage this morning, even though crowd problems meant the schedule had to be delayed by 45 minutes

A huge volume of spectators flooded into SS10, but rather than cancel the stage and run it as a road section for safety reasons, the officials waited until all the crowd could be safely accommodated and then proceeded as planned.

Although that meant a delay to the rest of the morning, Stobart Ford driver Wilson said the stage was worth the wait - and was that holding back showed the organisers had the right attitude towards the spectators.

"There were a hell of a lot of people in there. It took a while to get all of them into place," Wilson told AUTOSPORT.

"But it was definitely worth running the stage. The atmosphere was just incredible.

"There were so many people at the end, it would have been a real shame for them all to be disappointed. It was incredible to drive through a stage with so many people like that."
