Andersson dominates in S2000
Former Suzuki factory WRC driver P-G Andersson has made the perfect start to the inaugural round of the Super 2000 World Rally Championship on Rally Sweden this morning - leading the field by almost half a minute
Andersson, driving a Skoda Fabia S2000 for the first time on his home round of the championship, was fastest of the S-WRC runners on every one of this morning's three stages despite never having competed in the car before. Andersson is running as a wildcard S-WRC entry on the Karlstad-based event.
His nearest rival is Janne Tuohino, driving a Ford Fiesta S2000 for the first time. Tuohino admitted Andersson's pace was a cause for concern.
"P-G is fast, we need to find some more speed," Tuohino admitted. "I don't think we can go much quicker, but we can find something.
"We had a problem on the first couple of stages this morning - the windscreen wasn't demisting. But then in the last stage, my co-driver found that we had a pipe off the blower. He fixed it and it was better for the last stage."
Tuohino's fellow Ford driver Martin Prokop is third, 25.2s off the Finn. Reigning Junior World Rally champion Prokop's only problem of the morning was when he lost the rear screen from his Fiesta on SS3.
"I don't know how it happened," he said. "We hit a big bump and out it went - then it was very cold and windy! Otherwise, the car is perfect."
