Vaulkhard: WTCC move a "dream"

Harry Vaulkhard has said that his graduation to the World Touring Car Championship this year is a "dream come true"

The 24-year-old Briton was named as one of Bamboo's drivers for its maiden WTCC assault this season, alongside touring car newcomer and two-time Porsche Carrera Cup Asia champion Darryl O'Young.

"I can't wait," Vaulkhard, who will race a 2008-spec Chevrolet Lacetti, told AUTOSPORT. "All the guys I grew up idolising on the TV; Alain Menu, Gabriele Tarquini, Yvan Muller; they're all there and I just can't wait to go up against them.

"I'm under no illusions as to the task ahead of me. Sure it's going to be a big challenge and bit of a learning year - especially in terms of the circuits - but the BTCC laid the foundations for this last year, so what I've got is more excitement than nerves.

"Also, I think the Lacetti, which is the very latest specification from 2008, will be competitive. That coupled with me having an extra year of experience, makes me think I can have my best season yet in terms of my own performance."

Although Bamboo, which was formed in July last year, managed only two top-10 finishes in the British Touring Car Championship, Vaulkhard is confident that the team can rise to the challenge of the WTCC.

"When you look at how we ran in the European Touring Car Cup at the end of last year, you could see the gains made since the first race we did," he added. "I think that shows that even in a short space of time we've gone forwards."

The season begins at Curitiba in Brazil on March 7.
