Di Resta confident of future race deal

Paul di Resta is confident that Force India sees his deal to become reserve driver as the first step towards a race seat

The team announced di Resta as its number three earlier today. In addition to being on standby in case race drivers Tonio Liuzzi and Adrian Sutil are indisposed, the Scot will also participate in some Friday practice sessions at grands prix.

"It's going to be a very exciting year and there's a lot to learn," di Resta told AUTOSPORT. "Force India have been prepared to give me this opportunity and go forward with it. They are very serious about developing a relationship and moving on in the future.

"Clearly the Friday running is going to enable me to gain experience in a lot of situations, so I'm ready if I get the chance of a race drive."

He expects to work closely with the team throughout the season and plans to absorb as much information as possible.

"We're going to be doing the majority of the Fridays, and being at all the grands prix, sitting in on the briefings, listening over the radio, and just making myself best prepared to hopefully become a race driver," said di Resta, who will also continue to race for Mercedes in the DTM.

"Whenever I get a chance I'm going to be pushing to do the best job possible and let Force India see what I can do. Building towards a race drive in the future is certainly the aim."
