Van der Garde gets early Addax move
Giedo van der Garde will replace Max Chilton at Barwa Addax for the GP2 Asia Series rounds at Abu Dhabi next month
The 24-year-old Dutchman will race for the team in this summer's main championship and is using the one-off appearance to gain experience of the team and the track, which will host the main series finale in November.
"I am very thankful to the team for giving me this seat for the race," said van der Garde. "My goal is to know the track and team better. It's good to get some rhythm again and to look where I am physically. I have trained really hard and am feeling very fit."
Addax's Alberto Longo added: "We think it is a good decision to let Giedo get to know the Yas Marina Circuit better. We want to fight for the championship and need to prepare ourselves well. Decisions in the standings are always made at the end of the season, so that's why we made this choice."
Van der Garde won three races and finished seventh in last year's GP2 standings with iSport.
Chilton will contest the main series with Ocean Racing this year, and could join the team early for the remaining Asian races with Alexander Rossi's switch to Meritus leaving a seat vacant.
