Raikkonen hoping to rejoin Arctic Rally

Kimi Raikkonen is hoping to continue in the Arctic Rally, despite crashing off the road on the second stage

The Red Bull driver made it to the end of the test after spectators helped return his Citroen C4 WRC to the road after he hit a tree on a right-hand corner.

It remains unclear whether Raikkonen will be able to continue in the rally because of potential damage to the Citroen, and the chance that he will not have completed SS2 in the time permitted. The former Formula 1 world champion is scheduled to tackle one more stage before returning to Rovaniemi for service.

Raikkonen's first competitive drive in a Citroen C4 WRC started well, with the Finn posting a time just five seconds slower than that of Citroen World Rally Team driver Dani Sordo on the opening 11.27km test.

A source close to the organisers said: "We need to find out what is happening with Kimi right now. We know they hit the tree and broke the tree, but we need to look at the car when it comes back to service.

"There is no superally on this event, but I'm sure something can happen to try and get him back out for tomorrow. If we didn't, there would be many disappointed fans out there."

If Raikkonen does retire from the event proper, one option open to the Arctic Rally organisers could be to run him as course car through Saturday.
