MacDowall wants BTCC seat after test

Alex MacDowall has set his sights on a move into the British Touring Car Championship next season after testing for the Motorbase BMW squad at Brands Hatch this week

The teenager, who finished second in the Renault Clio Cup this year, completed a day of running at the Kent circuit alongside Andrew Jordan and Steven Kane, and was delighted with his pace.

"The test was fantastic and I want to say a big thank you to everyone at Motorbase for helping things go so smoothly," said MacDowall.

"The BMW is obviously a completely different car to what I've been used to the last couple of years in Clios, but I didn't have any problems adapting to the rear-wheel drive. The increased grip was one of the biggest differences.

"When we looked at the data, I saw that I'd matched what Jonathan Adam had done, so that was a big boost.

"We're considering our options for next year but if we are able to secure the financial backing, it's possible we could be on the BTCC grid."

MacDowall said that if his BTCC plans fail to come to fruition, he is likely to either remain in the Clio Cup, or compete in the SEAT Leon Eurocup.
