Winterbottom leads Surfers qualifying

Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom topped the times in qualifying ahead of tomorrow's top ten shootout for this weekend's Nikon SuperGP at Surfers Paradise

Winterbottom was just under two tenths of a second faster than Team Vodafone's Jamie Whincup, who had crashed in practice earlier in the day. Russell Ingall put in a good lap in his Supercheap Auto Commodore to take third, with James Courtney a whisker behind in fourth right at the end of the session after struggling to put in a fast lap for most of it.

Holden Racing Team's Garth Tander and Will Davison were next fastest, Davison leading the times early in the session before dropping down the order, and aborting a lap at the very end of the session as traffic got in his way.

Paul Dumbrell showed pace once again to set the seventh-fastest time, while a trio of Fords complete the top ten in the form of Steven Richards, Jason Bright and Craig Lowndes, Bright involved in contact with Ingall right at the end of the session.

Just missing the top ten was Lee Holdsworth, while both the Kellys were a little further back, Todd 14th and Rick 16th on the timesheets. Surprisingly, both Fabian Coulthard and Shane van Gisbergen didn't even come close to making the shootout, Coulthard 17th and van Gisbergen 18th.
