Mikkelsen chasing 2010 IRC deal
Norwegian driver Andreas Mikkelsen will contest this week's Rally Bohemia in a Skoda Fabia S2000
The 20-year-old is chasing an Intercontinental Rally Challenge drive next season and is hoping his first Fabia outing will be enough to land him a 2010 seat.
Mikkelsen tested the Fabia, which will be run by Italian team MRT, yesterday. This is only his second S2000 outing, following a problematical run in an Opel Corsa S2000 on the Ypres Rally.
"This was my first taste of a Skoda Fabia S2000 and I was very impressed," said Mikkelsen. "The handling of the car was very good and the engine has a lot of power. I'm really looking forward to the rally.
"This is the start of my preparation for next season, we're talking to several teams about the IRC."
Rally Bohemia is a sensible choice for Mikkelsen; running out of Skoda's hometown of Mlada Boleslav, it is an event eagerly watched by the Czech Republic firm's hierarchy.
The rally starts tomorrow and finishes on Saturday.
