Wilks splits with Proton team
Guy Wilks has parted company with the MEM Proton team, leaving him out of a drive for next month's Intercontinental Rally Challenge season-ending Rally of Scotland
Relations have become increasingly strained between Wilks and the Bakewell-based team and the decision to split was taken last night. Former World Rally Championship driver Alister McRae will drive the Satria S2000 in Scotland after making his debut with the team on last week's Indonesia Rally.
Of the six IRC rounds Wilks has started in the Proton this season, he has failed to finish twice after an accident on the Ypres Rally and an engine failure on Barum Rally Zlin. The highlight of the programme was fourth in Russia.
MEM team principal Chris Mellors said: "We have decided to go our separate ways. Guy had his ideas on the way the car was working and they were not necessarily the same as our own. The matter is closed now, we're moving on and looking forward to Scotland."
Wilks declined to comment on the situation.
