Williams welcomes Massa's F1 test

Frank Williams has welcomed the news that Felipe Massa will test a Formula 1 car for the first time since his accident

The Brazilian Ferrari driver is expected to test a two-year-old F2007 car some time over the next weeks as he continues with his rehabilitation following his Hungarian Grand Prix accident two months ago.

The FIA stewards have allowed the test with the 2007 car, which will be fitted with GP2 tyres.

Williams, whose team had been criticised by Ferrari after refusing to allow Michael Schumacher to test this year's car ahead of his planned grand prix return earlier this year, hoped Massa the best in his test.

"I would like to wish Felipe well with his return to a Formula 1 car next week," said Williams in a statement.

"It is a tribute to the safety standards of Formula 1 today, and of course to Felipe's characteristic determination and drive, that he is making his return so soon.

"I hope that the test proves a successful step in his rehabilitation."
