Buemi unhappy despite top ten slot

The Scuderia Toro Rosso driver will start 10th, his best grid slot since the Hungarian Grand Prix two months ago, after being unable to run during the top 10 shootout because of a crash on the run out of Spoon Curve at the end of Q2.

"I'm not happy, as I made it through to Q3, but after crashing the car I couldn't take part," said Buemi, who also had an off during Q1.

"A great shame as this would have been my second Q3 of the season and the car was super today. I was reasonably comfortable so maybe I didn't need to do that last lap."

The Swiss was unapologetic for bringing his limping car back to the pits after hitting the barrier in Q3, saying that he was hoping the team would be able to repair his car in time for the next session.

"In Q1 after I crashed, I managed to bring it back to the pits and have it repaired, so after the second accident, I felt I had to try and bring it back again, as you don't know from the cockpit how bad the damage is," said Buemi.

"At that point of the track, the kerb is really high and if you touch it at the speed you are doing there, you just fly over it.

"I hope to make good use of the performance level of the car in the race, to repay the team for all the work they have to do now."

Team-mate Jaime Alguersuari also had an accident in Q1, going off at the first Degner, but still set a time fast enough to make it into Q2. He was unable to run in the session, leaving him a career-best 15th on the grid.

"Before the accident, I was pushing hard on the hard tyre," said Buemi. "I lost control and went into the wall. It was quite a heavy impact.

"I felt confident in the fast Turn 9, so I was going for it, until I went a little bit too fast on the hard tyre and once I was on the grass, I had no grip. The kerb there is far too high for the speed you are carrying at this point."
