Ducati introduces new fairing for Estoril

Ducati is to run a new fairing this weekend at Estoril to coincide with Casey Stoner's return to the MotoGP field

The company's MotoGP project leader Filippo Preziosi said the development had been brought forward having originally been scheduled for the Australian Grand Prix later this month.

"We spoke to Casey at the start of the season about the 'Phillip Island' fairing, but once we knew Casey would return in Estoril, at the beginning of August we pushed like hell in order to get the fairing for this race," said Preziosi.

"We want to give it to him as a gift. I hope that this is something he enjoys as this is something we decided together.

"The fairing is made so the bike is easier and lighter into the chicanes and entering the corners. 90 per cent of the comments from [test rider] Vito [Guareschi] are similar to those of Casey. This fairing could help if the race at Phillip Island is windy."

It is known that numerous fairings have been tested in the windtunnel going back to the 990cc days, with Alan Jenkins overseeing the creation of the parts.
