Theissen: More to come from upgrade

BMW motorsport boss Mario Theissen says there is more potential to extract from the team's latest upgrade package introduced in Singapore

The team ran several new parts during the Marina Bay race, including a new front wing, modified sidepods, a more developed double diffuser and a modified rear wing.

But with so many changes, Theissen feels the team did not have enough time to make them work properly and he expects more progress at the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend.

"The upgrade is working. I hope it will be even strong on a fast track like Suzuka next weekend," Theissen said. "I think we have not fully exploited the potential yet. We had limited time.

"Compared to the qualifying performance, the race performance was not equally good, so I think there is something go gain and now it's up to us to sort this out for Suzuka and try to be stronger there."

BMW scored just one point in Singapore after Robert Kubica finished in eighth position in what Theissen agreed was a very hard race.

"It was damn hard work for just one point," he said. "Robert I think he achieved the optimum result. Apparently the car was stronger in qualifying and in the race. He made no mistakes.

"It was really hard for him to keep Nakajima and Raikkonen behind him.He did a great job to defend his position there, so at least one point."

The team boss reckons Kubica could have finished higher up if the safety car had not hindered him.

"Again, unlucky for him. Last year the safety car came out right before his pitstop. This time it came out right after his pitstop. The others benefited from it and he lost about two positions."
