Toyota boosted by Singapore podium

Toyota team president John Howett says Timo Glock's podium at the Singapore Grand Prix will be a big boost for the outfit's staff

But Howett played down suggestions that Glock's second place will have an influence in Toyota's decision about its future in Formula 1.

"I don't think so, to be honest," Howett said when asked if the podium was a political boost for the team. "The main issue to me is that it's good for the motivation of the guys who work so hard. They worked really hard to get the package ready here.

"It's quite a complex design on the rear of the car, and the production guys have really been pushing. As a race team, you race to win.

"I think it's more for the motivation in the team, the belief that we actually can do it."

Ahead of its home grand prix, Howett said the team and its bosses will be just focusing on how to improve its performance next year.

"The culture in the company is to look at the issues and more of the discussion will be about TF110 and what we are doing to improve the performance," he said.

"We always look forward and try to understand where the weaknesses are and improve them, rather than sit back and enjoy the sunshine. That's the culture of Toyota."

Howett added the team is in no hurry to decide on its driver line-up, but made it clear Glock was very much in contention to retain his seat.

"At the moment we are just waiting to see what happens on the driver market. But we are still very open to discuss with Timo."
